Waikuku Beach Activities

Waikuku Beach Holiday Park is located just 100m from a safe swimming and surf beach that is patrolled by surf lifesavers throughout the summer. The holiday park is separated from the beach by a forest belt that offers a great place for kids to play. There is a children’s playground with a jumping pillow onsite, and the domain next door has a range of other family friendly activities. We are also just 15 minutes from Rangiora and Kaiapoi, which are well worth exploring!

The Beach

The long, sandy beach is just footsteps away, great for building sandcastles, or simply taking a leisurely walk along the shore. The beach is also dog friendly (on a leash), so the family pet can come too!

Swimming & Surfing

For kids who love the water, the beach offers safe swimming in the ocean. There are also lifeguards on patrol during the Summer period. If you love a bit of surfing, or even boogie boarding, don’t forget to bring those boards!

Waikuku Beach Domain

The nearby Waikuku Beach Domain offers a treasure trove of kid-friendly activities. There is a playground, flying fox, tennis court, basketball half-court, skateboard area, and paddling pool. You’ll be spoiled for choice!

Jumping Pillow & Playground

Waikuku Beach Holiday Park has a number of great facilities suited to families. One of those is our awesome jumping pillow! This is often a real favourite with the kids. In fact, they probably won’t want to get off! In addition to our Jumping Pillow, we also have our very own playground located here onsite.

Waikuku Beach Forest Belt

Our holiday park is separated from the beach by a forest that offers numerous fun trails to explore. It’s the perfect place for you to let the kids loose, and for them to let their imaginations run wild! Kids love to build forts, invent their own play, and create cherished childhood memories.

Waikuku Lavender Fields

Enjoy a leisurely walk through the fragrant lavender fields, with rows of vibrant purple flowers stretching as far as the eye can see. Just a short drive from the beach, it’s a great place for taking some stunning photos. The farm also has a shop where you can purchase essential oils, soaps, candles, and more.

Rangiora

The lovely town of Rangiora is just 15 minutes away from Waikuku Beach. It’s ideal if you’re looking for cafes, restaurants, walks, and more. Here are some great things to do in Rangiora!

Whether it’s a coffee date, brunch with the family, or a relaxed dinner, Rangiora has some tasty spots to choose from. You’ll find plenty of cute cafes, along with hearty meals from just about every kind of cuisine. Just what you need after a day of exploring or hanging out at the park.

Take a wander down Rangiora’s rejuvenated main street, and you’ll find a mix of boutiques, gift shops, homewares, clothing, books, and more. It’s a lovely little shopping scene with something for everyone!

A tranquil country garden with a touch of magic, Willoughbridge is something right out of a storybook. Open by appointment, it’s perfect for nature lovers or anyone keen on a peaceful stroll. Wander through native trees, seasonal colour, and meandering paths, or relax by the pond and enjoy the birdsong. A lovely change of pace from the sand and surf.

Perfect for a cruisy stroll or family walk. The trail winds its way alongside the Ashley River and through some lovely rural scenery. Pack some snacks, and enjoy the fresh air with the kids… or the dog!

An easy go-to for families. Victoria Park has a fantastic playground, picnic tables, and wide open spaces. Bring a ball, a frisbee, a packed lunch, or even just a thermos and a book. It’s a great spot to relax, let the kids run wild, or a little bit of both!

A great activity on the first Saturday of every month! You’ll find stalls selling all sorts, including books, clothing, plants, arts and crafts. The stallholders are always up for a chat as well! Feeling a bit peckish? Grab some homemade baking, barista coffee, or a sausie from the BBQ!

Kaiapoi

Also just 15 minutes away, Kaiapoi is a vibrant little river town with plenty to see, do, and taste. Whether you’re after a coffee, an adventure on the water, or a bit of local history, Kaiapoi has you covered!

Kaiapoi is dotted with fantastic spots to grab a bite. From riverside dining to family-friendly cafés, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re in the mood for brunch, fish and chips, or a hearty pub meal, you won’t go hungry.

If you’re craving excitement, Alpine Jet Thrills will get your heart racing. Hold on tight as the jet boat speeds down the Waimakariri River, twisting and turning with plenty of spray in your face. It’s an iconic Canterbury adventure!

Want to explore at your own pace? KORE Hire offers both kayaks and paddleboards, giving you the freedom to enjoy the Kaiapoi River however you like.

Held every Saturday morning, this market is a local favourite. Browse stalls offering fresh produce, baked goods, crafts, plants, and more. It’s the ideal place to pick up some extra food for your getaway, or even or a little souvenir.

Perfect for families, Aqualand is a Summer-only water park designed to keep kids entertained for hours. With inflatables, slides, and plenty of splashing about, it’s a great way to burn off energy on a sunny day.

For something a little more relaxed, hop aboard the Kaiapoi River Queen, a paddleboat that cruises along the Kaiapoi River. Sit back, enjoy the scenery, and treat yourself to a meal or drink on board.

Right on the riverbank, Art on the Quay is a gallery that showcases local artists. It’s free to pop in, and a lovely way to connect with the creativity of the community.

This community-driven project is a beautiful space to wander, learn, and even forage. The Kaiapoi Food Forest is all about sustainability, with fruit trees, herbs, and edible gardens open for everyone to enjoy.

Step back in time at the Kaiapoi Museum, where you’ll find stories and artefacts from the town’s rich history. It’s small but packed with charm, making it a great stop for history buffs and curious kids alike.
